Shammi (Abdul Mujib Qureshey), ex-President of Panchgani Municipal Council is no more. He was a man nobody who met him could forget. Yesterday I visited one of his friends who said about him "Bhaijaan" jaisa aadmi mujhe ab kabhi nahin milega! (I shall never be able to meet a person like "Bhaijaan"). He was universally known as Bhaijaan (Elder Brother).
He led Panchgani Hill Station Municipal Council to get its due not only from visitors but also from the Government through infrastructure and much more.
For some reason he had taken to smoking toxic tobaccos which eventually caused him mental imbalance.
He was persuaded to take treatment and was sent to his ancestral village Patiyali in North India. One of his relatives tried his homeopathic knowledge to treat his mental imbalance and he (Shammi) did show fairly good response to the treatment.
He had never had to take any medication. He was very much healthy. Except for a chronic CONSTIPATION which he often complained of. I was with my elder brother, Mr. M. A. Qureshey, in Nashik, when heard about Shammi's sad demise. We both left for Panchgani without delay. But, Alas! We could not make it to attend his last rites. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
